The new airconditioned bus interchange for Boon Lay, which is conveniently connected to the new Jurong Point 2 shopping mall and The Centris condominium, has been scheduled to open end 2009. It is the fourth such “integrated public transport hub” after Toa Payoh, Sengkang and Ang Mo Kio.
While the LTA may have boasted that this was the largest airconditioned bus interchange it ever built, it’s still comparatively smaller than some of the older bus interchanges around. Ironic, considering that bus interchanges should grow bigger instead of shrinking, since bus companies have to pump in more buses in order to meet stricter standards imposed by the LTA itself. Overcrowded bus interchanges, here we come!

An unlikely recipient of double deck buses is the industrial route 79 running from Jurong East Interchange to Penjuru and Chin Bee before looping at Boon Lay Interchange.
The one and only SBS9207M is based at Soon Lee Depot.
This follows a string of traditionally single deck fleet services such as the 6, 58, 151 and 225 which received their first double decks earlier this year.
