Media spotlight

Ever wondered just who, and why, do some people have a deep interest in buses and have dedicated their time to this hobby known as ‘bus spotting’? This hobby, together with its members, has recently seen an increase in media exposure which will hopefully help dispel the common belief that bus enthusiasts are a bunch of weird people.

iJournalist on ChannelNewsAsia

Local bus enthusiasts and their various local online platforms were featured in a ChannelNewsAsia programme called iJournalist in February 2008. We were featured yet again in the show’s second season which highlighted less known facts within the community.

Hello,
It’s suprising that i find bus enthusiast di Singapore.
May I introduce myself. I’m choirul arifin, a bus enthusiast in Indonesia. I’m a Jakarta based journalist.
Like in Singapore, there are so many bus enthusiasts coming from many cities in Indonesia, especial in Java provinces. We has established a bus lovers community, named BisMania Community.
Nowadays, there are about 550 active bus enthusiast in Indonesia. They are united in a mailing list group discusssion at bismania@yahoogroups.com with more than 200 newly posted mails every week.
We also have a web page addressed in http://bismania.org, where we publish every single activity of bus anthusiasts, including travel report photos and fresh news related with busworld in Indonesia.

Fomerly, there is a common perception that it’s abunch of weird people with weird hobby. But, the bad perception has been dispelled by our presence in media publication.

Warm regard from Jakarta,

Choirul

Hi choirul,

It is indeed nice to know that there are people sharing similar interests just across the border! Yes, we in Singapore do indeed have an active bus enthusiast community, but definitely not one as big as yours or those in Hong Kong and the UK.

And yes, there has also been greater publicity about bus enthusiats in Singapore through the local media.

I see the potential in developing cross-territorial interaction between us. Do drop me a personal email 🙂
