The website for integrated public transport information in Singapore – Public Transport @ SG, can now be accessed by handphones and PDAs, a service dubbed PublicTransport@SG Mobile. Which means a little more convenience for those who have been using its real-time bus arrival information, bus service route information and train maps – the website’s top three clicks.
The idea behind the website and going mobile are both good, no doubt about that. But the LTA seems to be going abit too far, too fast. Perhaps it should just focus on getting all the bus stops in Singapore into its system first, before trying to implement other novel ideas. Because for now, if you are nowhere near the city or the “western academic belt” and maybe a few town centre spots, chances are, PublicTransport@SG would not be useful if you are checking for real-time bus arrival information. If SBS Transit can already achieve this with its own IRIS in a relatively short period of time, surely a government agency can do better.
