More buses will be deployed to run more trips on SMRT Premium service 531.

Commuters of SMRT’s premium bus service 531 in Simei, Bedok and Upper East Coast have even more reasons to cheer about from next Monday 6th May 2009.

Even more trips are going to be added to the schedule – one in the morning peak and another in the afternoon peak journey – totalling up to five downtown trips in the morning and three heartland-bound trips in the evenings every regular weekday.

The additional morning trip will start at 0745 hours at Simei Road, reaching the last stop in Shenton Way by approximately 0835 hours. This additional trip will also be the earliest 531 bus to reach town. In the evenings, an additional trip commencing at 1840 hours from Hub Synergy Point along Anson Road will be the latest to reach Simei at around 1930 hours, giving flexibility to those who want to end their day just a little bit late to tidy up the day’s worth of office work.

This follows just six days after the fare for SMRT’s Premium bus services were lowered for the first time. For the popular service 531, the current fare stands at a flat rate of $3.80, which is 20 cents cheaper than before April 1st.

This latest round of changes reflects yet again the popularity of service 531, which is the only premium bus service out of the many which were introduced following the relaxation of regulations on premium bus services, to have as many as five morning trips and even a set of evening return journeys. Many others are still running only one morning downtown trip every weekday.

Premium bus service 531 runs from the bus stop opposite Block 135 along Simei Road to the Shenton Way business district every weekday morning, passing through the estates of Bedok Road and Upper East Coast Road enroute, before hitting the East Coast Parkway (ECP) to the CBD. Three return journeys operate in the late afternoons from Anson Road back to Upper East Coast and Simei, clocking a maximum journey time of 45 minutes end-to-end.
