Saturday 6 December 2008 was officially the last day of revenue service for Singapore’s last single deck non-airconditioned public bus.

SBS3626C, a Scania N223CRB model, ran bus route 6 (Pasir Ris to Loyang industrial estate) from morning till mid-afternoon, with its last trip ending at Pasir Ris Interchange at slightly after 3.00PM.

Having been on the roads for the past 19 years, these non-airconditioned buses were one of the quietest buses around – not quite a characteristic of some current newer bus models. A majority were based at SBS Transit’s Bedok North Depot, thus the common sight of such buses running on many feeder and intertown bus services in the east.

A handful of the airconditioned units are still in service – but not for long. They are due to be fully phased out by early-2009.
